What Happens When Siblings Disagree About Inherited Land?
Estate administration, entitlements, occupation and division of inherited land.
Identify the estate’s status
Check whether title remains in the deceased’s name or has passed to beneficiaries. Establish the will, heirs, debts and administrator’s authority. An agreement between siblings may not bind a surviving spouse or other interested persons.
Separate administration from occupation and division
The administrator’s powers differ from the beneficiaries’ entitlements. Occupation and rent accounting may raise separate issues. Once co-ownership is registered, partition or statutory sale may be considered under Cap. 224. A sibling cannot simply appropriate a preferred part.
Seek a documented solution
Collect estate, family, title and valuation documents. A settlement should specify shares, payments and transfer arrangements. If agreement fails, select the court or Land Registry procedure appropriate to the actual dispute.
